I know many men pray never to find themselves in a relationship defined by how much money they have in their accounts. But what if you inadvertently fell in love with a gold digger? How to deal with a gold-digging girlfriend would become like the Holy Grail for you I bet.
I won’t say I was ever in a situation where I had to deal with a gold-digging girlfriend. Maybe it’s because I haven’t dated enough girls or perhaps I am just plain lucky in the kind of girls I relate with.
Thinking about how to deal with gold-digging girlfriend was inevitable for me. I mean, when friends regularly sought you out for advice on how to deal with a girl determined to empty their bank accounts, thinking about girls like that in my quieter moments became normal.
As I was writing this piece, my friend came in. So I seized the opportunity to ask her opinion on how to deal with a gold-digging girlfriend. I figured being a girl, she’d know a few tricks.
She looked at me blankly for a while. Then promptly accused me of trying to tell her indirectly she is a gold digger.
So instead of getting answers from her, I had to spend over 10 minutes convincing her my question had nothing to do with her.
Phew!
For those who don’t know, gold diggers are girls that are determined to go through you cash reserve the way hot knife cuts a chunk of butter. Their demand for money is endless and relentless.
The prevailing wisdom is that there is never anything good in girls like that. But life being what it is, I know finding an awesome girl who happens to need a lot of money is not impossible.
For those who are seriously in love with a gold digger, this piece is for you.
Ways to deal with a gold-digging girlfriend
1. Never let them know how much you earn
I cannot stress this point enough. For some guys, it is a matter of principle that they never tell anybody their monthly income.
However, you might find yourself in a situation where you need to inform her how much you earn or how much you have in your bank account.
One easy way she can find out is giving her your ATM card to help you with a withdrawal.
The point here is this, if you discover you girlfriend is a gold digger, even if a gun is pointed at your head, never let her know how much you have.
For a gold digger, ignorance of how much you are worth can put a break in the frequency and size of her monetary demands.
But, an accomplished gold digger can easily estimate your worth by the property you own right? Which brings us nicely to the next point.
2. Always complain of being short of money
Just make it a habit to whine constantly about how broke you are. But you need to be careful not to over-do it though. Or else you might create a monster that would require different skill sets to handle.
So anytime you think it is appropriate, just chip in the fact you are short of cash and won’t be able to handle several important projects because of that.
You can take it a little further by informing her with a worried frown on your face that you may need to sell some of your properties to do other important things.
I promise you, unless she is a stupid beyond belief, she’d get the message to prune her monetary demands.
3. Never give her everything she demands for
If you don’t want your lovely gold-digging girlfriend to wreck you financially, learn to slash her demands dispassionately.
She might complain bitterly or even cry that what you are offering isn’t enough. This is where you need a heart of steel especially if she goes down the crying route.
Remember how your parents refused you stuff no matter how hard you cried? The same technique works here. Stick to your guns. The sky is not going to fall down on both of you because of her tantrums.
For instance, if she demands a huge flat screen TV; give her just enough to buy the cheapest, medium-sized one.
4. Limit the number of times you are together
This works brilliantly of she is not a live-in girlfriend
You have to be very creative in using this technique of how to deal deal with a gold-digging girlfriend.
The creativity comes in the excuses you need to give on why you can’t be with her on certain days or at certain times. Not being there with her would certainly limit her opportunities to ask you for money.
Some might point out that she could just as well call you up and ask you for money. That is true. But I know for a fact that it is easier to reject her demands over a phone.
We all know it is easy to lie as much as we want over the phone than when you are face to face with someone.
5. Put her on a monthly allowance
This is one cool way to deal with a gold-digging girlfriend.
No matter how much you earn, putting her on a monthly budget is a sure way to make her be responsible on how she spends money.
I would be easy for you to take the moral high ground if she demands for more money after exhausting her monthly stipend.
Then you have the right to tag her irresponsible. I promise you, after a few occasions of berating her, she’d work very hard to avoid that situation. And the best way to do that is to spend within her limits.
Okay, this is the point where we address the skeptics. The ones who belief that treating a gold-digging girlfriend like that is one sure way of making her look for money outside and we know what that means.
That could happen, but then again, how easy is it for nice girls to betray their boyfriends like that? That is a topic for another day I guess.
