For most people, the idea of drinking hot water only makes sense when it is sweetened and is part of their morning breakfast. I am talking about tea or coffee in the mornings.
I have to admit I am also ‘most people‘ when it comes to drinking hot water. The only other time I bother to drink hot water is when I have cold symptoms.
Then you’d see me scrambling to heat water before drinking it. It is never a pleasant experience. But it work wonders in clearing my throat.
Just like me, you be surprised that drinking hot water has numerous health benefits. That is apart from well known fact that drinking water is good for our health.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the benefits of drinking hot water.
Drinking hot water aids digestion
Numerous studies have clearly shown that cold water during or after meals make it difficult for the body to digest food.
First off, optimal temperature for digestion is the body temperature. Secondly, cold water tends to harden the fats and oils in food making them difficult to digest.
Drinking hot or warm water instead would do away with those negatives thereby aiding digestion immensely
Cleanses the body of toxins
One of the health benefits of drinking warm water is that it helps to remove all the accumulated toxins in the body.
For better results, you can add a slice or two of lemon to the water. The Lemon would accelerate digestion while the hot water raises the temperature of the body which may result in sweating.
The simple act of sweating removes toxins and excess fluids from the body.
Blood circulation
One of the consequences of detoxification of the body is an improvement in blood circulation.
So while drinking hot water aids in removing toxins from the body, the blood in the circulatory system gets a boost because the fewer toxins in the system, the more healthier and vigorous the blood cells are.
Slows down the aging process
This is one of the most surprising benefits of drinking hot water. It is logical really because once you successfully remove toxins from the body, the cells in the body also benefit a lot too.
Again, since hot water is easily assimilated by the body, it easily improves the elasticity of the skin keeping it taut and preventing premature wrinkles.
Aids bowel movement
One of the main causes of constipation is lack of enough water in the body. Drinking water can easily solve the problem.
Better still, drinking hot water could work wonders in preventing constipation. Because hot water stimulates the circulatory system, digested foods are carried along easily in the intestine.
Weight Loss
Because drinking hot water helps the body’s metabolism, aids digestion, flushes out toxins as well as keeping the body hydrated, the combine effect of all these is reflected on the body’s ability to gain weight.
The weight gain process is drastically reduced as unhealthy fats are easily digested or eliminated due to the improved bowel movement.
Drinking hot water also reduces the urge to eat a snack or two because hydrating the body with hot water tends to give a feeling of fullness.
Benefits to the skin
Drinking hot water combined with cleansing the face with hot water is a very good way to eliminate skin conditions like pimples and acne.
One of the root causes of these skin problems are too much toxins and fats in the body; and like we said earlier, drinking hot water is a good way to flush these toxins and unhealthy fats from the body, thereby preventing or eliminating these skin conditions.
Benefits to the Hair
I won’t say hot water in your system would stop you from going bald. However, hot water stimulates the pores at the root of your hair to open up easily releasing moisture to the hair.
This would make your hair look shiny and healthy. And of course, the fact that the scalp is not dry means you have directly eliminated the main cause of dandruff.
Good as a natural remedy for cough and sore and itchy throat
Mixing hot water with honey and drinking it is a very good cure for cough. So instead of wasting money and time, if you have honey lying in the house, just mix a few spoonfuls in hot water and drink it.
For sore and itchy throat, gargling a mixture of hot water and salt would provide quick relieve. In this case it is inadvisable to drink the water-salt mixture though. Just gargle and spit out.
Relieves cramps from menstruation
If you suffer from menstrual cramps during menstruation, drinking hot water is an easy way to ease the pains.
Hot water calms and sooths the muscles of the abdomen eventually stopping the cramps, or at the very least significantly reducing the pains.
