AMAA 2013 Winners List for the 9th Edition
African Movie Academy Awards 9th Edition took center stage in Yenagoa Bayelsa State in Nigeria, the theme of this year edition which is “Africa One” that got a record of 671 films competing for various positions in the yearly award programme. AMAA that has been called the African Oscar Award presented some exciting winners on her list for the 9th edition.
The African Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence of professionals in the African film industry, including directors, actors, and writers. It was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and run through the Africa Film Academy which has the very first edition in 2005.
When this year’s edition date was first chosen last year, it looks a long way far far ahead but today it’s finally here. The celebration begins with Nigerian youngsters’ music sensation PSquare (The Peter & Paul Okoye dudes). Nigerian literary icons have gathered in Yenagoa for the international book and craft fair that is part of the activities for the 2013 AMAA was hosted by actress Dakore Egbuson, comedian Ayo Makun and British/Ghanaian television presenter and actress, Ama K. Abebrese.
The AMAA Awards, which is currently ongoing in Bayelsa has Pete Edochie, Tunde Kelani, Emem Isong, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and Kenneth Okonkwo honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture. The award presentation is attended by numerous international media representatives. The most recent ceremony, honoring films in 2011, was held at the Expo Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, Nigeria on 22 April 2012
